History / Social Science Instructional Resources

The California State Board of Education adopts instructional materials for Kindergarten to Grade Eight. These materials align to the California History / Social Science Content Standards. At the high school level, instructional materials are adopted at the local level, with the district board of education certifying that the materials align to the standards.

Local Adoption Process Toolkit

Developed by History-Social Science practitioners, the toolkit assists local schools and districts with the instructional materials adoption process.  The toolkit includes recommendations for setting up a local process, sample needs and resources inventory forms plus criteria for evaluating a program's organization, assessment components, and means of addressing the special needs of student subgroups.  Web resources concerning the instructional materials adoption process are alos included.  The toolkit is appropriate for use K-12.

Constitution Day-September 17th - An annotated and linked listing of instructional resources for implementing the new federal law.

California: To Statehood and Beyond (PDF)
An annotated bibliography developed by CDE of recommended books, Web sites, materials, and museums. Appropriate for kindergarten through grade twelve, the resources deal with California's history from 1846 to 1850.
