California English-Language Arts Content Standards
Electronic
versions of the English-Language Arts content standards adopted by the
California State Board of Education are available below. The standards
represent a strong consensus on the skills, knowledge, and abilities
that all students should be able to master in language arts at each
grade level in the California public school system. At each grade
level, the standards are organized by strands: (1) reading, (2)
writing, (3) written and oral English language conventions, and (3)
listening and speaking.
The
English-language development (ELD) standards are designed to supplement
the English–language arts content standards to ensure that
limited-English proficient (LEP) students (now called English learners
in California) develop proficiency in both the English language and the
concepts and skills contained in the English–language arts content
standards.

Reading/Language Arts Framework
A blueprint for implementing California's English-Language arts content
standards, this framework describes the curriculum and instruction
necessary to help students achieve progressive levels of mastery so
that they may communicate effectively in English and, ultimately,
participate fully in society and the world of work. A glossary of
selected terms and list of references are included.
To order a printed version of the framework, view the CDE Press' Educational Resource Catalog.
