Standards and Frameworks
MathematicsCalifornia Mathematics Content Standards
Electronic versions of the Mathematics content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education are available below. The content standards identify what all students in California public schools should know and be able to do in mathematics at each grade level. The standards emphasize computational and procedural skills, conceptual understanding, and problem solving. The standards are organized by grade level and are presented in five strands up to grade seven: number sense, algebra and functions, measurement and geometry; statistics, data analysis, and probability; and mathematical reasoning. The mathematics studied in grades eight through twelve falls naturally under the discipline headings of algebra, geometry, etc. The 2006 updated Mathematics Framework for Public Schools also includes blueprints for a math intervention course for grades 4-7 and an algebra readiness course.

State Content Standards Overview Brochures These brochures are abridged versions of the four sets of content standards (English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and History-Social Science) in a series of 25 brochures in PDF format: one each for kindergarten through grade eight, and one for each of the high school subject areas. This breakdown is especially useful for parents who want to see what their child needs to know at a particular grade level. Spanish language versions of the brochures are also available.
STAR Blueprints
The STAR Blueprints for the California Standards Test (CST) show the standards tested and numbers of questions included on these independent CSTs.
California Mathematics Framework
This edition emphasizes the critical interrelationships among computational and procedural proficiency, problem-solving ability, and conceptual understanding of all aspects of mathematics. It addresses the needs of all learners and describes the components of a well-designed mathematics program aligned with California's mathematics content standards.

California Science Content Standards
Electronic versions of the Science content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education are available below. The standards represent the content of science education and include the essential skills and knowledge students will need to be scientifically literate citizens in the twenty-first century. Adopted by the State Board of Education in 1998, the standards are organized in sets under broad concept statements. The content systematically increases in depth, breadth, and complexity through the grade levels. The standards for grades nine through twelve are divided into physics, chemistry, biology/life sciences, and earth sciences.

California Science Framework
The 2007 revised Science Framework incorporates and builds on the science content standards adopted by the State Board of Education in 1998. It is the blueprint for reform of the science curriculum, instruction, professional preparation and development, and instructional materials in California.
